Continuous in vitro rumen systems.

چکیده

I n vitro rumen experiments have been conducted for at least 40 years, and many research problems have been examined successfully by this approach. The simplest sub-division of in vitro rumen systems is into batchand continuous-culture types. The batch-culture approach involves the provision of an initial supply only of substrate, which results in a culture in which the concentration of substrates is constantly falling while that of waste products rises. The continuous-culture type of in vitro rumen aims to replenish the substrates and remove waste products over an extended culture period. This is, of course, the situation in vivo and most in vitro systems have employed an intermittent addition of fresh substrate in order to simulate natural conditions as closely as possible. Before evaluating these and other systems it is profitable to consider the nature of the natural rumen as a microbial environment.

In vitro Effects of Exogenous Fibrolytic Enzymes on Rumen Fermentation of Wild Guinea Grass (Panicum maximum)

This study aimed to evaluate the potential of commercial enzymes cellulase (CE), xylanase (XY) and the combination of CE + XY to improve rumen fermentation of Guinea grass ecotype ‘A’ (Panicum maximum). The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design. In vitro incubations were performed with four doses of individual enzymes and their combinations (1:1 from each enzyme) as 5...

In vitro Assessment of the Effect of Plant Extracts on Digestibility, Estimated Energy Value, Microbial Mass and Rumen Fermentation Kinetics

Three ethanol extracts, chamomile (CHA), clove (CLO) and tarragon (TAR), were tested at five doses (0, 250, 500, 750 and 1000 µL/L) to determine their effects on in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD), metabolizable energy (ME), net energy of lactation (NEL), short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), microbial mass (MM) and rumen fermentation kinetics of a 40:60 forage: concentrate diet using in v...

In vitro techniques for the evaluation of ruminant feeds.

For the purposes of this symposium in vitro techniques for the evaluation of ruminant feeds are defined as laboratory methods in which the availability of nutrients in the feed to the digestive process in the ruminant animal is estimated by the incubation of the feed with micrwrganisms or semi-purified enzyme preparations, or both. Ewart (1974) reviewed for the Society recent developments in co...

Effects of the antibiotic monensin and an inhibitor of methanogenesis on in vitro continuous rumen fermentations.

1. The effects of a methane inhibitor, ICI 111075, and a propionate enhancer, monensin, were studied using in vitro continuous fermenters. 2. Both compounds increased the yield of substrate energy, carbon and hydrogen in volatile fatty acids (VFA). This was mainly due to an increase in the molar proportion of propionic acid. 3. Improved yields of VFA were accompanied by reductions in methane pr...

The Comparison of in vitro Digestibility of Wheat Straw by Rumen Anaerobic Fungi of Khuzestan Buffalo and Holstein Cattle

This study was conducted to compare digestibility of wheat straw (WS) by fungi and whole rumen microorganisms (WRM). Dry matter (DM), neutral and acid detergent fiber (NDF and ADF) digestibility of WS were compared with in vitro digestion (IVD), gas production (GP) and specific rumen anaerobic fungi culture (SRAFC). Dry matter, NDF and ADF digestibility of WS by WRM of buffalo (60.80, 49.93 and...
